The 10 best companies to work for in the UK

Want to work for a company with a great culture, excellent career prospects and flexible working hours? Then, you should consider applying to Google, John Lewis, Jaguar Land Rover and Accenture, according to their employees.

These companies are some of the best employers in the UK, according to a survey of their workers by Glassdoor.

British employees rated their companies anonymously through the popular career website, which enables professionals to find out from company staff what the corporate culture is really like before they join.

Google, John Lewis, Microsoft, Accenture and Jaguar Land Rover all made the top five.

Despite its new chief executive Satya Nadella recently advising female tech workers at a conference not to ask for a payrise, Microsoft employees say working at the company is “loads of fun”, while its flexible working policy takes into account “work-life balance”.

[Workers 'too busy to take holidays']

John Lewis has recently come under fire along with other retailers for not paying its contract cleaners the Living Wage. However, its workers praise the retailer on the Glassdor website for its “open and collaborative culture” and its “democratic ‘partner’ nature”.

“People who work there love it, and stay,” says a retail assistant.

Meanwhile, employees at Google praised its “very cool culture” and “offices to die for”, while workers at car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover said the firm was “great at spotting potential in individuals and encouraging them to advance” while it also gave workers the opportunity to “make a difference” to its products.

Those at management consultancy firm Accenture said it has a young workforce and is “open to new ideas and technologies”.

Other companies in the top 10 include investment bank JP Morgan, IT giant Cisco Systems, mobile network Three and accountancy firms Deloitte and PwC.
