The best-selling new cars in the UK right now
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has revealed the best-selling new cars in Britain last month.
Industry data shows Ford is leading the pack, with the Ford Fiesta the most popular new vehicles on the market right now and the Ford Focus close behind.
The company shifted 5,606 Fiesta and 4,565 Focus models in April. The Ford Fiesta is also the best-selling car over the past 12 months, with almost 30,000 cars sold.
The Volkswagen Golf was April’s third biggest seller (3,953), with the Nissan Qashqai fourth (3,791) and Mercedes-Benz A-Class fifth (3,584).

The remainder of the top 10 in order of popularity were the Ford Kuga, Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Tiguan, Vauxhall Corsa and Hyundai Tucson.
The Kia Sportage and MINI remain in the 10 best sellers over the past 12 months, but are no longer in the top 10 over the past month.
Weak consumer demand pulled down car sales in the UK overall, with new car registrations in the UK down 4.1% year-on-year in April.
While the overall market is growing for alternative fuel vehicles, sales of plug-in hybrids capable of producing zero emissions have nosedived by more than a third.
The SMMT criticised government cutbacks to financial incentives for buyers of the ultra-low or zero-emission vehicles, which it says manufacturers have begun investing in heavily.
“We need policies that help get the latest, cleanest vehicles on the road more quickly and support market transition for all drivers,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive.
“This includes investment in infrastructure and long-term incentives to make new technologies as affordable as possible.”
