The Chase have teased the arrival of the programme’s brand new Chaser.

It was revealed earlier this year that the ITV gameshow is set to welcome another brainbox to join the ranks alongside "The Governess" Anne Hegerty, "The Sinnerman" Paul Sinha, "The Beast" Mark Labbett, "The Dark Destroyer" Shaun Wallace and "The Vixen" Jenny Ryan.

While the teaser doesn't show the star's face, it is widely believed that Irish scientist Darragh Ennis will be joining the programme.

The video posted the programme's social media shows the silhouette of the new Chaser, with host Bradley Walsh's voice heard saying: "Or team, are we taking on a mystery brain box from somewhere on the planet?"

"Everyone has been asking about it, and today you got a glimpse of what is to come with a look at the new Chaser's silhouette 👤

"You're going to want to keep watching future episodes to find out more 👀 #TheChase," the caption read.

Ennis, who competed on the programme himself back in 2017 against Sinha, tweeted back in April that he was set to become a Chaser although ITV has kept tight-lipped.

“I'm really excited to be the 6th chaser on #TheChase. I’ve been working hard on this for a while now and can’t wait for my episodes to air. Well the ones I win anyway," he said.

The Sinnerman himself seemed to confirm it though as he responded to Ennis' tweet at the time.

"The night before they producers told us, Anne and Mark and I sat at dinner and pondered, ‘Could it be a former contestant’.

“I said, ‘If it is, the best player I faced was an Irish guy who looked a bit like Micky Flanagan.’ Welcome to the club mate," the quizzer wrote.

However, not everyone is necessarily excited at the prospect of having six Chasers in rotation as earlier this year Labbett said it could mean a smaller pay-packet for those already on the show.

The Sun quoted him as saying: “I’m gutted about it, to be honest. We only get paid for when we work so a new Chaser means less work.

“There will be a point where I can’t afford to do it anymore.”

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
