“So You Think You Can Dance” contestant says she was attacked with acid and stabbed in London
“There's been a lot of hate in the past but this physical assault is a wake up call," Korra Obidi wrote on Instagram.
Korra Obidi is recovering from an attack in London.
The former So You Think You Can Dance contestant, who appeared on the series in 2019, says she was attacked by an unidentified assailant Thursday. “Currently in an ambulance to the hospital, there was a knife, acid attack on me in the UK in the middle of a live stream,” she wrote in a caption of an Instagram video that shows the aftermath of the incident. “There's been a lot of hate in the past but this physical assault is a wake up call.”
In the video, Obidi asks to someone not shown, “Face is burning, can I have some Coke to wash it please? To neutralize the acid?” Later, an unseen speaker says, “The knife is still here on the premises,” and there is footage of a sharp yellow knife lying on the ground. The video then shows men in uniforms washing out Obidi’s eyes and misting her back with an aerosol spray.
London authorities did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told E! News that police had been called to respond to an assault in central London on Thursday afternoon. "Officers attended and found a woman in her 30s with a cut to her hand and reporting a liquid had been thrown at her face," the spokesperson said. "She was taken to hospital for treatment. The liquid was later confirmed to be a non-noxious cosmetic item." The statement also says that another woman left the premises before law enforcement arrived, and that an investigation is underway.
In the comment section of the post, Obidi offered an update on her condition. “Guys I’m in the hospital,” she wrote. “Safety with travel is no longer a luxury but necessity. The acid was salicylic and I was lucky. Love you guys.”
In her caption, Obidi also requested information about the alleged attacker to be sent to Korramanagement@gmail.com.
In another update on her Instagram story, Obidi wrote, “God is real/Grateful for Life/No man gave me my dream/No man can stop it,” along with a link to her upcoming song “Outsider.”
