‘I think he faked it’: Pundit makes bizarre claim Aston Villa star faked injury nine minutes into Euro qualifier
Aston Villa full-back Matty Cash has been accused of faking an injury after limping off after nine minutes during Poland’s defeat against the Czech Republic on Friday.
The 25-year-old, who was born in England, has Polish grandparents on his mother’s side and represented them at the World Cup in Qatar last year.
Cash has since represented Poland 12 times, but has recently faced criticism after a pundit cast doubt over whether or not he was genuinely injured in their latest Euro qualifier.
After the game, the Villa defender returned to England to recover from his injury, which has been officially announced as a thigh strain.
The Midlands club’s next fixture comes against Chelsea on Friday, so it will be interesting to see whether or not Cash is fit enough to feature in Unai Emery’s starting XI.
Chelsea are unbeaten in their last four games, while Villa are looking to continue a fine run of form after defeating strugglers Everton, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth recently.
Pundit makes bizarre Cash claim: ‘I think he faked it’
It’s fair to say that Cash’s premature departure from the Euro qualifier has not gone down well, with pundit Tomasz Hajto, who played for Southampton, suggesting that he could have just ran it off.
Speaking on Cafe Futbol, he said: “I never said he faked an injury, but I think he did.
“I don’t want to believe that after such a few minutes, after which he went down, he didn’t want to rehabilitate himself. His injury is not a tear or torn fibres, it’s an alleged strain.
“I would [at least] stay until Monday. I would like to heal at all costs and show the manager that I care. Say: ‘I’m sorry coach, but I’m ready and against Albania, I will be the best on the pitch’. And now we find out that he is packing up and leaving.”
Cash is yet to respond to the bizarre claim, but Poland supporters will no doubt be left frustrated if he ends up featuring against Chelsea.
If the full-back is unavailable, however, this will leave cash with a difficult decision to make, as Cash has been a key player for Villa recently -featuring in the club’s last eight Premier League fixtures.
