This is how many over 80s have received a COVID vaccine in your area – as London falls behind

London continues to lag behind the rest of the country in administering COVID vaccines to the over 80s.

While the vaccine rollout continues to rocket forward, new data shows that nearly nine in 10 people aged over 80 across England have received their first dose.

In the capital, however, less than three-quarters of this group have had a jab, sparking fears some elderly people are missing out on a life-saving dose.

The percentage for the whole of England stood at 88.1% over 80s getting their first vaccine as of 31 January, with south-west England reporting the highest regional total at 92.8%.

London reported the lowest total with 74.9%.

The map below shows how many over 80s have been vaccinated in your area

Here are the regional percentages in full:

  • South-west England 92.8%

  • North-east England/Yorkshire 90.5%

  • North-west England 88.9%

  • South-east England 88.8%

  • Midlands 88.7%

  • Eastern England 88.1%

  • London 74.9%

While London is lagging behind when it comes to vaccinating its over 80s it is storming ahead with inoculating its over 70s.

The figures suggests the capital is not receiving less than its fair share of vaccines, rather it is struggling to connect with all the over 80s who need their jab.

An estimated 61.1% of people in the capital between the age of 70 and 74 had received their first jab by 31 January, compared with 24.6% in south-west England and 25.6% in south-east England.

Figures for the other regions are: north-west England 46.0%, eastern England 36.8%, Midlands 33.9%, north-east England/Yorkshire 29.2%.

For the 75-79 age group, the estimates are:

  • North-west England 87.9%

  • South-west England 84.5%,

  • Eastern England 84.3%,

  • North-east England/Yorkshire 83.4%,

  • Midlands 81.6%,

  • South-east England 79.8%,

  • London 76.2%.

The latest figures also show the government has vaccinated nearly all care home residents with over nine in 10 offered the jab.

As of the end of January 31, 236,499 residents had received their first jab, out of 260,060 who were eligible for the vaccine – a total of 90.9%.

NHS England said the number of eligible residents includes a small number of residents at care homes currently undergoing an outbreak and which cannot yet be visited for vaccination, along with residents who did not receive the vaccine for valid medical reasons, and those for whom consent had not been provided.

The government delivered more than 600,000 vaccinations on Saturday and has now given the fist dose to over 15% of the population.

The seven-day rolling average of first doses given in the UK is now 430,532.

Based on the latest figures, an average of 409,956 first doses of vaccine would be needed each day in order to meet the government’s target of 15 million first doses by 15 February.

The government has continued to ramp up its vaccine roll out in recent weeks and it is expected to approve two more vaccines in the coming weeks.

The Novavax vaccine is expected to be rolled out as soon as it is approved and will be produced in Stockton-on-Tees.

The single jab Johnson & Johnson vaccine is expected to arrive in the UK around late spring early summer.
