Thomas Lennon to Develop Animated Comedy ‘Post Guard’ at Fox (EXCLUSIVE)

Thomas Lennon is developing the animated comedy “The Post Guard” at Fox, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series is described as a workplace adventure comedy following the rag tag crew of humans, turtles, seals and mermaids at the secretive, and often overlooked mashup of the Coast Guard and Post Office, as they scour the high seas to find and deliver messages in bottles, while settling who among them is in charge of the ship’s menial tasks, like resetting the WiFi.

Fox has ordered a presentation for the project. Lennon will write and executive produce, with Peter Principato also executive producing. Fox Entertainment will produce along with Bento Box Entertainment.

Lennon has been in demand at Fox for some time, going back to his starring role in the comedy pilot “Dan the Weatherman” in 2018. He also starred in the Fox pilot Richard Lovely and appeared as Leo Getz in the Fox series adaptation of “Lethal Weapon.” He is best known for co-creating and starring in the Comedy Central mockumentary series “Reno 911!” That series was recently revived at Quibi before moving over to Roku Channel when Quibi folded. The revival was nominated for best short-form comedy series at the Emmys in 2020, with the show currently up in the same category at this year’s Emmys. The show also inspired the feature film “Reno 911: Miami” in 2007.

As a screenwriter, he and fellow “Reno 911!” co-creator and star Robert Ben Garant wrote the “Night at the Museum” franchise as well as films like “The Pacifier” and “Balls of Fury.”

Lennon is repped by Artists First, UTA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
