TikTok recently discovered liquid plastic — an adhesive that’s supposedly more effective than glue — and it’s actually pretty cool.

The craze began when Rachel Hutchens Meaders shared a viral video where she showed how useful the glue substitute is. But how does liquid plastic stack up against another cult favorite Gorilla Glue? In The Know’s Dillon Thompson compared the two products to see which gets you the most bang for your buck.

So what is the difference between liquid plastic and glue in the first place?

“If you’ve never seen liquid plastic bond two things together in just four seconds then your mind is about to be blown,” Meaders said in the TikTok. “It can fix and repair almost anything that normal glue cannot keep up with. This stuff is crazy.”

Instead of glue, liquid plastic is used to bond objects together. It’s dispensed from a small precision pen and only hardens when exposed to UV light. That means you get to control when it hardens and dries. It can fix glasses, toys, heels and phone chargers, according to Meaders.

Now for the ultimate test. Lockdown is a great time to focus on home repairs and if you’re like Dillon, then you’ve got no shortage of things to spruce up.

“We’re gonna test this gadget on three points: Is it pricy? Is it easy to use? Is it sticky? Which we’ll judge by how many things I can fix in my apartment with it,” Dillon explained.

He used the liquid plastic and Gorilla Glue to repair a broken dish, pair of sunglasses, frayed wires, a shoelace aglet and to add furniture pads to the legs of his chair.

Gorilla Glue didn’t work on the frayed wires or sunglasses, while the liquid plastic worked on everything and won the “stickiness” category. However, when it came to the price, you couldn’t beat Gorilla Glue’s $6.50 compared to the $19 liquid plastic that runs out much faster. Dillon also said the liquid plastic was actually much easier to use than the Gorilla Glue thanks to its precise dispenser pen.

In the end, he determined the liquid plastic was the winner of the adhesive competition.

“The liquid plastic won in two of our three categories meaning it is our pick,” Dillon said. “We would recommend that gadget over the Gorilla Glue.”

This TikTok trend is actually an incredible product:
