TikTok hack gives your old clothes a second life: 'The most useful advice'

This trick to stretch T-shirts is going to make shopping way easier. It does require a little patience, but it can give your old clothes a second life.

Decode and demystify Gen Z's latest online slang terms with In The Know's new glossary.

Sometimes a shop with cool clothes doesn’t carry your size. Or maybe your latest online purchase turned out to be much tinier than expected. Whether you’ve outgrown your favorite T-shirt or got one too small at the thrift shop, TikToker @das.rich — who goes by Rich on the platform — has got the perfect solution.

Four delicious recipes for the ultimate spring brunch

“Being a big, handsome, fluffy man isn’t exactly easy, especially when you go to a merchandise stand and they only have an XL,” Rich explained, showing a long-sleeve shirt that was snugger on him than he preferred.

First, he put the shirt into his washing machine. He set it for a regular spin cycle with cold water. Rich emphasized not to use detergent in this hack. He poured hair conditioner into the wash. Once the spin cycle was complete, he put the shirt in an ice bath for 30 minutes. Afterward, he put it back in the washing machine for another spin cycle with cold water.

“All I did was a chemical shock to the fibers of the T-shirt,” Rich stated. “Cold water does not expand the fibers of the T-shirt, it relaxes them, allowing the fibers to be malleable. All hair conditioner does is lubricate the fibers allowing them to stretch. [It gives] you the perfect recipe to stretch your shirt.”

Rich then put the shirt back on while it was wet. He stretched the sleeves and the length by tugging at different areas of the item.

“You physically have to stretch the shirt and in a very similar motion to what I’m showing you so that it compliments your body better,” he said.

The clothes-stretching hack racked up 1.4 million views on TikTok. People were grateful for the practical info. Rich also noted in the comment section that the hack does not work on jeans.

“This changes my thrifting game forever,” one person said.

“This is useful for everyone,” another wrote.

“The most useful advice I will keep with me forever,” a user commented.
