TikToker shares 'helpful' advice for new moms struggling to adjust to parenthood: 'I really needed to see this'

Adjusting to parenthood is no easy feat. The good news? There are millions of moms and dads who have been in your shoes, and there is a whole corner of the internet where fellow parents share some of their best advice on everything from babyproofing the house to getting your little one through the teething stage.

On TikTok, many young parents have recently begun participating in a new trend (started by @babesraisingbabies) in which they share some of their best advice for new moms. If there’s anyone you should listen to when it comes to parenting advice, it’s a mom or dad who has experience raising a child.

The new mom advice TikTokers shared ranges from cathartic and reassuring to pragmatic.

TikToker @breecard imparted some parenting wisdom her own mom shared with her when she had her first baby. She admitted that it was “not the most fun advice, but truly some of the most helpful I have ever gotten.”

“I was sleep-deprived, exhausted and at the end of my rope and [my mom] said, ‘Remember, the baby has to adapt to your world,'” she explained. “When you’re a new mom, you feel like you should be sacrificing everything for your baby and you should. […] [But] the truth is the baby does need to adapt to your world because they have to live in it.”

This advice resonated with a lot of new moms and gave them a peace of mind they really needed.

“Spent a lot of last night crying and I really needed to see this, thank you,” one said.

“I love that. I wish someone had told me this,” another added.

“Plus-sized bruh mom” @peepeepoopoodoodoo had some more practical and matter-of-fact advice for new moms who might be turning to Google every time their baby coughs or sneezes.

“If you didn’t hear it from your pediatrician, guess what? Take it with a grain of salt,” she said.

She also had some reassuring words for moms who might be feeling like they’re not doing enough for their kids.

“Side note: If somebody is mom shaming you, ask them what they’re insecure about. I’m not a perfect mother, you’re not a perfect mother. Who is? None of us.”
