TikToker shares trick to avoid Uber 'price gouging' from LAX airport: 'Extreme scams'

A Los Angeles man highlighted how a certain ride-share service ups its prices for travelers from LAX airport.

TikToker @nikhilslife posted a video accusing Uber of “price gauging.” He noticed that when listing his pickup location from LAX, the cost was much higher than if he listed it a mere 500 feet away from the airport.

Symone reflects on the epic year she's had since winning "RuPaul's Drag Race":

“Want to see how Uber price gauges you?” he said. “I want to get from LAX to a restaurant that’s about 3 miles away. It’s going to cost me $42.”

The pricing showed $42.07 for an UberBlack and $38.96 for an UberX.

“But if I move my pickup destination from LAX to the Hyatt Regency, which is a hotel quite literally 500 feet from the L.A. exit, it’s now going to cost me $8.93,” he explained.

The adjusted price showed $8.93 for an UberX and $25.75 for an Uber Black.

People in the comment section shared their thoughts on Uber’s prices.

“It also adjusts costs for traffic, and airports induce higher fees,” a person added.

“Same at Disney World… Uber was $137 to the hotel… switched to Lyft, and it was $45 with tip,” a user commented.

“Because they have to pay a fee to the airport for pick up there,” someone suggested.

“Ride-share and food delivery services are all extreme scams,” another commented.

“Price gouging? It’s called supply and demand. The trade-off is braving the walk from your terminal to the pickup spot. Then waiting for a driver,” a TikToker replied.
