TikTokers are completely freaking out over this abandoned ghost town filled with ‘creepy’ statues: ‘I’ve been there’

TikTok users are freaking out over the “Rhyolite ghost town statues.”

The strange, ghostlike figures located in the abandoned town of Rhyolite, Nevada, are sparking plenty of curiosity on the app.

It’s not surprising, given TikTok’s obsession with abandoned locations. In the past, users have shared videos of a “ghost town” of McMansions, a “haunted” castle in California and even an abandoned mall hiding beneath an Airbnb.

This new, bizarre discovery comes courtesy of TikTok user Jason Cline (@jason_cline). In his clip, the TikToker showed his followers various Google Earth views of the abandoned town, seemingly filled with cloak-wearing statues.

Many TikTok users were freaked out and confused by the Rhyolite ghost town statues. But in reality, Cline’s video actually depicts an art installation.

As Insider reported, the figures are all part of the Goldwell Open Air Museum. The outdoor museum features several sculptures by a series of Belgian artists — including Cline’s “creepy” ghosts.

However, Rhyolite is a legitimate ghost town. According to the National Park Service, the tiny Nevada town, located just on the border of Death Valley National Park, has been abandoned for more than 100 years.

Many TikTok users chimed in to share this information, explaining that they’d visited the museum themselves before.

“I’ve been there. It’s a beautiful art installation,” one user wrote.

“That’s Rhyolite,” another added. “It’s an old ghost town with an interesting past.”

As more TikTokers have shared info about the statues, Cline’s video has only seemed to gain popularity. The clip has now been viewed more than 18 million times.
