With so many different designer bag brands and styles out there, it can be difficult deciding which to invest in.

After all, most of us can only afford one expensive bag (if we’re lucky) so, we’ve got to ensure we pick the right one.

It goes without saying that you need to love the bag you buy but, you should also pick one that’s going to go the distance: both in terms of durability and sartorial status. You don’t want to spend big on a bag that will look horribly out of fashion in just a few months.

Panic not. We’ve put together a list of the designer bags that will never go out of style.

Some, like the Chloé Marcie mini and A.P.C. Half-moon, have already been around for years and are still top sellers.

Others, such as Staud’s Bissett bucket bag, are newer additions to the bag scene, yet have already proved to be a real hit with influencers and celebrities alike proving their cult status.

Timeless designer bags to invest in

Chloé Marcie Mini Textured-Leather Shoulder Bag | £575 at Net-A-Porter

Available in numerous colour ways, this oh-so-chic French cross-body classic is ideal for work, weekend wear and for use in the evenings. It’s compact but boasts enough space for your phone, wallet, keys, lip balm and other essentials.

Acne Studios Musubi Mini Tote | £850 at Farfetch

Acne’s Musubi handbag might not have been around long, but it’s already proved its popularity. The surprisingly spacious handbag is fairly minimal - like you might expect from a Scandi brand - and features knot details on the sides.

A.P.C. Half-Moon Smooth-Leather Cross-Body Bag | £310 at Matches Fashion

Atelier de Production et de Création’s signature, semi-circular bag is a huge hit globally. Available in almost every hue imaginable, from green to orange to a gorgeous, pale grey, there really is a style for every woman. Pair it with a trouser suit for the office or shorts and flip-flops come summer.

Mulberry Amberley Small Grained-Leather Cross-Body Bag | £650 at Selfridges

A Mulberry bag will always be a solid investment and one current bestseller is the Amberley: a very sophisticated, cross-body style that’s available in an array of colours. We love this earthy grey shade that makes a change from black and will go with any outfit.

Staud Bissett Leather Bucket Bag | £290 at Matches Fashion

This LA-label burst onto the UK fashion scene in 2017. The brainchild of former Reformation fashion director Sarah Staudinger, Staud launched in the US in 2015 and has been making waves ever since. While the brand creates clothing, accessories and shoes, it’s the bags - namely the Bissett Bucket - that’s proved to be a huge hit. Featuring a drawstring interior, cross-body strap and top handle, it’s a super chic addition to any woman’s wardrobe.

Gucci GG Marmont Leather Shoulder Bag | £1,510 at Selfridges

One of Selfridges’ best-selling bags, this softly-structured cross-body bag features sumptuous quilting and Gucci’s famous interlocking Gs. It’s a bag that will take you from day to night for decades to come - and make an ideal heirloom to one day pass on to a loved one.

Stella McCartney Falabella Reversible Tote | £720 at My Theresa

Stella expanded her covetable Falabella range to include this fully reversible and spacious tote, featuring a rich, burgundy interior. It’s made from polyester - not leather - and Meghan Markle owns the same style in beige so, it’s got the royal stamp of approval.

The Row Ascot Small Satin Tote | £800 at Net-A-Porter

This slouchy satin bag, from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s super luxe label The Row, has become a real classic in the last few years. As with all of the twins’ fashion offerings, this covetable tote manages to be both trendy yet timeless - a real worthy investment. Emily Ratajkowski, Chrissy Teigen and Priyanka Chopra are among the celebrities that own one.
