Tom Fletcher and Strictly Come Dancing partner Amy Dowden test positive for Covid-19

McFly musician Tom Fletcher and his Strictly Come Dancing professional partner Amy Dowden have tested positive for Covid-19.

BBC officials have announced that the musician and professional dancer tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday afternoon, less than 24 hours after dancing in the first live show, and were now self-isolating separately. In accordance with Strictly's Covid-19 protocols, the pair will not be allowed to rehearse for 10 days so they will miss this Saturday's show.

"The pair are now self-isolating separately following the latest government guidelines," the statement read. "While they will both miss Saturday's live show, Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that, all being well, they will return the following week. Strictly has and will continue to follow government guidelines in order to keep everyone safe."

Fletcher was also forced to miss a concert with McFly in Glasgow on Sunday evening, with the band issuing a statement revealing that he was "unwell" and unable to join them.

"He sends huge and heartfelt apologies to all the fans he won't see tonight," their message read. "The show will still be going ahead, we're looking forward to seeing you all and need you guys to sing extra loud for us tonight."

Fletcher, who will also be forced to miss the band's shows in Liverpool and Nottingham this week, retweeted the message and added that he was "so, so sorry".

Dowden told her Instagram followers that she had no symptoms, and wrote, "I have no doubt that over the next 10 days my mind will be going crazy with choreography ideas ready to get back on the Strictly dance floor for the live show in week 3!"
