Yahoo Finance Tom Holland says 'Spider-Man 3' is 'the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made'
Tom Holland has teased that his upcoming third Spider-Man movie is “the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made”.
The film, which will again be directed by Jon Watts, is tipped to heavily feature the idea of the “multiverse” and include characters from all three different generations of Spidey films.
Jamie Foxx is on board as Electro, Alfred Molina is to play Doc Ock again and it has been rumoured that former Peter Parker actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield could show up.

In a new interview with Variety, Holland remained tight-lipped on story details, but provided hints as to just how big the scale is this time around.
He said: “I can say that it’s the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made.

“You sit down, read the script, and see what they’re trying to do, and they’re succeeding. It’s really impressive.
“I’ve never seen a standalone superhero movie quite like it. And I’m just, you know, again, that lucky little s*** who happens to be Spider-Man in it.”

The movie was able to start filming last year when COVID-19 restrictions began to lift, though Holland said there’s still a great deal of the film to shoot.
“We started before Christmas and shot for like seven weeks,” he said.
“We stopped for the Christmas break, and then we’re starting again. I’m just as excited as everyone else to see it, let alone be a part of it.”
The multiverse is set to play a major role in the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home introducing the idea as a ruse by Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio.
Phase four, though, is set to bring in a legitimate multiverse — most notably in Sam Raimi’s upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed to show up in Spider-Man 3 as Doctor Strange, in an appearance which will almost certainly tee up the time-bending sorcerer’s own movie.
The untitled Spider-Man 3 is due to be released in December 2021, with Doctor Strange due a few months later in March 2022.
Holland, meanwhile, is currently hard at work promoting his dark-edged lead role in the crime thriller Cherry, directed by Avengers: Endgame helmers Anthony and Joe Russo.
The star plays an army medic with PTSD who becomes addicted to drugs and starts robbing banks to fund his habit.

Holland told Variety: “I love a challenge. I love pushing myself. Hard work is good work.
“So it was a bit of a no-brainer, this film, and I can’t imagine there was any way in which I would have turned it down and walked away.”
The cast also includes Ciara Bravo, Jack Reynor and Michael Gandolfini.
Cherry is due to be released worldwide via Apple TV+ on 12 March.
