A bitter winter is coming as the cost of energy soars – on top of double-digit inflation.

Ofgem confirmed that the energy price cap will jump by an unprecedented 80pc from £1,971 to £3,549 per year in October. However, in May, the then Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a £400 energy bill discount for all British households to take the sting out of the increase.

Critics argue the rebate does not go far enough to help with rising energy costs, which are still 54pc higher than they were last year.

How much will this affect your energy bill? Use our calculator to work out how much your annual costs will increase after October.

This has been calculated by measuring the percentage increase in bills in the price cap by Cornwall Insight.
