Yahoo Finance Top 10 jobs for introverts in 2021
Physicists, machine operatives and marketing professionals have been shown to be the best-suited jobs for those that like to work alone.
The report by Merchant Machine, which provides a UK payment processing comparison service, states that “introverts will often thrive in positions that require analytical skills, where they have the freedom to operate autonomously and in a quiet environment.”
By looking at the average salary and remote working capability, Merchant Machine worked out the top jobs for introverts.
The social score on the chart is based on a range of social business behaviours – the degree of contact with others, team working, contact with external customers, face-to-face discussions, establishing interpersonal relationships and communicating with peers. The higher the social score the less social interaction is required for that job.
Physicists and astronomers make around £35,000 ($47,609) and the roles have a social score of 7.33. Machine operators make slightly less and there is less opportunity to work remotely, but the role has the highest social score.
The report added that being an introvert can be mistakenly seen as people being socially anxious, when in reality introverts just get their energy by spending time alone with their thoughts.
“Workplaces, in general, tend to reward extroverts for their social skills, but introverts have many qualities that make them wonderful employees and leaders,” it said.
Famous introverted personalities include physicist Albert Einstein and Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the report added.

The study also found that Canada ranks at the top country to live in for introverts, with four people per square meter, an average salary of £21,757 and a good WiFi quality (145 Mbps).
When it comes to professions for introverts that are also COVID-19-safe, web developers, IT data analysts and software developers were found to be the roles best-suited for remote working.
Dennis Relojo-Howell, founder of psychology website Psychreg, said that “crowds can drain energy from introverts, so this lockdown might have been favourable for them in becoming even more productive.
“With introverts' innate ability to focus, they can be a particular asset to the company. They can be well attuned to capturing why your clients really need and they can propose unique solutions to improve your company's performance,” he added.
