Toronto Raptors break franchise record with 12-game win streak

The Toronto Raptors were not supposed to do this, but here they are.

According to most, after losing Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard in free agency, the Raptors were going to suffer this season and possibly not make the postseason. Instead, they’re breaking franchise records for consecutive wins.

After defeating the Indiana Pacers at home in dramatic fashion, Toronto has now won their last 12 and established a new franchise mark in the process.

It certainly was not easy on Wednesday against the Pacers, but the Raptors were able to squeak by with a 119-118 victory.

After being up by 10 points after the first quarter, they found themselves down 14 at halftime. But thanks to some last-minute heroics by a red-hot Serge Ibaka, the Raptors secured their 12th win in as many games.

Ibaka was able to set a season-high with 30 points on 13-for-21 shooting from the field, but it was Kyle Lowry that led the Raptors in scoring and made all the difference.

Lowry finished the contest with 32 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds.

Like a fine wine, the 33-year-old guard is leading the Raptors into contention and a deserving 37-14 record. That currently puts them second in the Eastern Conference.

During this stretch of success, Toronto has mainly been trouncing teams below .500, but Wednesday’s win over the Pacers marks the third time — the Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers being the others — during this run that they have defeated a team above the even mark.

Toronto now holds a sizzling 29-2 record against teams below .500 and are 8-12 against teams on the opposite side.

The Raptors previously earned 11-game winning streaks twice in their history, once in 2016 and again in 2018. They will be looking to make it 13 straight on Friday, when they face the Indiana Pacers again.
