Content warning: This post describes violence against a woman.

Rapper Tory Lanez has been charged for “assaulting a female friend” earlier this year, per a report released by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, according to The New York Times. The report only names the "friend," as "Megan P," but according to the date, details of the shooting, and the reported injuries, it’s almost certainly Megan Thee Stallion—who’s been forthright in accusing Lanez of the July 12th incident. Her legal name is Megan Pete.

Los Angeles prosecutors charged Lanez (whose legal name is Daystar Peterson) with two felony counts: one for assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and a second for carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. The report also notes that Lanez faces “a gun allegation and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury.” If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months in state prison.

According to the report, Lanez and “the 25-year-old victim” got into an argument while riding in an SUV in the Hollywood Hills. When the victim got out of the SUV, Peterson shot at her feet several times.

This all aligns with Megan Thee Stallion’s version of events, which she described in an Instagram Live in July without explicitly naming Lanez as the shooter. (She also posted then deleted “a graphic photo of her wound,” as CNN reports.)

She publicly accused Lanez of the shooting in another Instagram Live in August, where she also denounced accusations from people (read: trolls) around the internet that she had lied about her injuries.

"Yes...Tory shot me,” Megan said in her IG live.

“You shot me and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying. You shot me! I didn't get cut by no glass. I didn't tell the police immediately what happened right there because I didn't want to die."

Lanez was initially arrested on July 13th, the day following the shooting, for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. His arraignment is scheduled for October 13th.
