2020 has been the year of the staycation, but how will the trend of holidaying near home look in 2021?

With travel restrictions in place due to the coronavirus pandemic, booking quirky stays closer to home became the popular option for those unable to jet off abroad. In fact, millions of Brits decided to join the staycation trend, so much so that last-minute UK accommodation site, Snaptrip, reports a 33 per cent increase in bookings compared to 2019 – despite restrictions.

Based on data from Snaptrip, the top UK destination of 2020 was West Sussex. The county in the south of England – with its beautiful coastline and acres of woodland to explore – has been crowned the most popular staycation destination with a 87 per cent increase in bookings.

In second place is Cambridgeshire (61 per cent increase), third is Lancashire (60 per cent), fourth is Kent (59 per cent) and fifth is Cheshire (58 per cent).
