U.S. may sue Berkshire Hathaway unit over wildfire costs

Feb 26 (Reuters) - The U.S. government has threatened to sue the PacifiCorp unit of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway over its failure to pay $356 million in costs and damages associated with the 2020 Slater wildfire in southern Oregon and northern California, a regulatory filing showed on Monday.

Berkshire Hathaway Energy, parent of PacifiCorp, said PacifiCorp last month received correspondence from the U.S. Department of Justice indicating an intent to litigate. PacifiCorp said it is cooperating to resolve the alleged claims, including through alternative means.
