U.S. Physical Therapy (USPH) Soars 3.6%: Is Further Upside Left in the Stock?

U.S. Physical Therapy USPH shares ended the last trading session 3.6% higher at $103.58. The jump came on an impressive volume with a higher-than-average number of shares changing hands in the session. This compares to the stock's 25.1% gain over the past four weeks.

U.S. Physical Therapy recorded a strong price increase before its fourth-quarter 2022 earnings release with the latest Zacks Consensus Estimate showing significant upward revision for its quarterly revenues compared to the year-ago reported number. The company is scheduled to release its fourth-quarter earnings on Feb 22.

This physician staffing services company is expected to post quarterly earnings of $0.58 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of -19.4%. Revenues are expected to be $140.86 million, up 8.5% from the year-ago quarter.

Earnings and revenue growth expectations certainly give a good sense of the potential strength in a stock, but empirical research shows that trends in earnings estimate revisions are strongly correlated with near-term stock price movements.
