U.S. WCoast Products - Gasoline steady on refinery work

HOUSTON, Jan 14 (Reuters) - California gasoline was steady in the Los Angeles wholesale market on Tuesday on work at three of the state's refineries, traders said.

January-delivery CARBOB gasoline in L.A. was discounted 10 cents a gallon under February NYMEX RBOB gasoline. In the San Francisco Bay market held at 17.5 cents a gallon under February RBOB gasoline.

Chevron Corp.'s 269,000 barrel per day (bpd) El Segundo, California continued its recovery from an equipment breakdown over the weekend, according to notices the company has filed with regulators.

Royal Dutch Shell Plc (Xetra: R6C1.DE - news) 's 156,400 bpd Martinez, California, refinery was performing planned maintenance, a company spokeswoman said.

Also performing planned maintenance was Phillips 66 (NYSE: PSX - news) 's 139,000 bpd Wilmington, California refinery, the company said.

CARBOB gasoline is mandated by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for use in the state and meets more stringent anti-pollution standards than the gasoline required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in most of the country. CARBOB is made to blend with ethanol.

January L.A. CARB diesel was also steady in a bid-offer spread of 7 cents/6 cents under February NYMEX heating oil. Bay market CARB diesel was offered at a 5-cent discount to NYMEX heating oil.

CARB also requires a state-specific, ultra-low-sulfur diesel with a more stringent formula than EPA diesel.
