Uganda inflation falls to 5.1 pct in year to July

KAMPALA (Reuters) - Uganda's headline inflation slows to 5.1 percent year-on-year in July from 5.9 percent a month earlier, the statistics office said on Friday. Core inflation, which strips out food, fuel and metered water, also dropped to 5.7 percent during the month from a revised 6.8 percent in the previous month, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics told a news conference. Policymakers cut lending rates last month saying inflation was likely to fall further in the near term. The statistics office attributed the drop in overall inflation during the month of July to lower fuel prices (Reporting by Elias Biryabarema; Writing by Duncan Miriri; Editing by Alison Williams)
