The UK's dreary August weather causes surge in searches for properties abroad
August has been a hugely disappointing month in terms of weather. Rather than bathing in warm, beautiful sunshine, most of us Brits have been looking up at gloomy skies and wishing for brighter days.
That's exactly why more Brits have been looking to buy properties abroad. Searches on Zoopla for properties abroad have increased by 17 per cent since the sunshine of early summer disappeared.
The property site showed that between July 10 and August 15 of this year, Spain, Portugal, and France were the most searched for overseas locations.
Zoopla compared website traffic over the last five weeks to the previous five-week period of warmer weather earlier in the summer. The analysis showed that European destinations proved most popular, though, some Brits are searching further afield. USA, Jamaica, and Canada were also all in the top 10. See the full list below...

The Spanish resort of Costa del Sol saw a 44 per cent increase in property searches, while Ibiza saw a rise of 41 per cent. Properties in the Algarve, Portugal, saw a boost of 16 per cent, whereas search for properties in the US increased by 11 per cent compared to earlier in the summer.
In terms of keyword searches, the term most popular for properties abroad was, probably unsurprisingly, 'pool', followed by 'beach' and 'sea view'. See the top 10 search terms below.
