UK Commercial Property REIT's (LON:UKCM) Shareholders Are Down 23% On Their Shares

The simplest way to benefit from a rising market is to buy an index fund. While individual stocks can be big winners, plenty more fail to generate satisfactory returns. Unfortunately the UK Commercial Property REIT Limited (LON:UKCM) share price slid 23% over twelve months. That's disappointing when you consider the market declined 5.7%. Looking at the longer term, the stock is down 23% over three years. The silver lining is that the stock is up 1.4% in about a week.

There is no denying that markets are sometimes efficient, but prices do not always reflect underlying business performance. One flawed but reasonable way to assess how sentiment around a company has changed is to compare the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price.

UK Commercial Property REIT fell to a loss making position during the year. Buyers no doubt think it's a temporary situation, but those with a nose for quality have low tolerance for losses. Of course, if the company can turn the situation around, investors will likely profit.
