People in England are just hours away from finding out which tier they will move into, with the end of lockdown just a week away.

Heath Secretary Matt Hancock will place each region into Tier 1, 2 or 3 tomorrow, after local leaders lobbied the Government to spare their areas from the toughest restrictions.

It comes as Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that the UK is at the start of an “economic emergency” as he unveiled his Spending Review amid warnings of the worst recession in 300 years.

Meanwhile, the UK’s Covid-19 death toll has increased by 696 overnight – the biggest 24-hour jump since May 5.
