Concerns have been raised about the speed of the coronavirus vaccine rollout in London amid signs that the lockdown could be pushing down infection rates across England.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced today that more than three million jabs have been administered in the UK, but Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was “hugely concerned” that just a tenth of the jabs nationally were given in London.

It comes as the latest data from Public Health England’s weekly surveillance report showed Covid-19 cases have fallen in most regions of England.

Although London continues to have the highest rate of any region, the capital’s rate of new cases stood at 864.9 per 100,000 people in the seven days to January 10, down from 1,043.9 in the previous week - a 17 per cent drop.
