The UK has the highest coronavirus case rate in Europe after a rise caused by the spread of the Delta variant.

The UK now has a rate of 82.7 cases per 100,000 people. Portugal is also seeing a rise in cases, according to the BBC, but France is below the UK and trending downward.

It comes as the UK is again expected to be excluded from an expanded EU travel list because of the exponential growth of infection caused by the Delta variant. Eight countries are to be added to a list of countries from where the EU says non-essential travel is safe including Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Lebanon, the US, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong.

They join join Australia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and China on a “white list”.
