UK GAS-Prices mostly edge lower as fresh supplies loom, wind power rises

LONDON, April 25 (Reuters) - Most British wholesale gas contracts mainly edged lower on Wednesday morning, as fresh supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are expected to arrive this week and forecasts of strong output from the country's wind farms have curbed demand.

* Day-ahead gas price down 0.10 pence at 51.00 p/therm by 0817 GMT.

* "There is LNG coming and a bit more wind," a gas trader said, adding that this had pushed prices lower.

* Peak wind power generation is forecast at 7.8 gigawatts (GW) on Wednesday, rising to 9 GW on Thursday, National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data showed.

* "LNG can be a bearish driver over the coming days as three cargoes arrive to the UK and Dragon (LNG terminal) is sending volume to the grid," analysts at Thomson Reuters (Dusseldorf: TOC.DU - news) said in a daily research note.

* The within-day contract bucked the trend to gain 0.50 p at 51.25 pence per therm.

* Traders said the within-day price was lifted as the market is forecast to be undersupplied on Wednesday.

* Gas system undersupplied by 5.9 million cubic metres (mcm)/day with demand forecast at 198.1 mcm/day and flows at 192.2 mcm/day, National Grid data showed.

* Further out on the curve most prices slipped.

* May contract down 0.05 p at 50.60 p/therm.

* Winter 2018 contract down 0.15 p at 56.65 p/therm.

* Day-ahead gas price at the Dutch TTF hub down 0.05 euro at 19.63 euros per megawatt-hour.

* Benchmark Dec-18 EU carbon contract down 0.08 euro at 13.15 euros per tonne. (Reporting By Susanna Twidale; editing by Nina Chestney)
