UK GAS-Prices mostly edge up on low wind output forecasts

LONDON, July 4 (Reuters) - British wholesale gas prices mostly edged higher on Wednesday morning due to low wind power output and amid stronger oil and coal prices, traders said.

* Within-day contract was 0.20 pence higher at 56.60 pence per therm at 0842 GMT.

* The weekend contract was up 0.50 pence at 56.00 p/therm

* Traders said that low wind power generation was increasing power-to-gas demand

* Peak wind generation is forecast to drop to below 2 gigawatts (GW) on Thursday from around 2.4 GW today, Elexon data shows

* European API2 2019 coal futures are at five year highs of $91.50 a tonne, while crude oil prices edged up following a report of tightening U.S. fuel inventories

* However, day-ahead gas was 0.30 pence lower at 56.30 p/therm due to oversupply

* The British gas system is oversupplied by 9 million cubic metres (mcm), with demand forecast at nearly 194 mcm and flows at 203 mcm, according to National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data

* UK Continental Shelf production is at around 106 million cubic metres (mcm). Planned maintenance will take place at the Dimlington terminal from July 5 to Aug. 2 with a 4 mcm/day reduction of capacity. However, exports from the terminal will fall to zero between July 17-19.

* An unplanned outage at North Morecambe gas sub-terminal ended on Wednesday morning and flows are resuming

* Britain is currently set to receive one liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker this month

* Thomson Reuters (Dusseldorf: TOC.DU - news) gas analysts said two more possible cargoes are heading to Britain but the terminal has very low stock levels so any new cargo could only replenish stocks and not necessarily translate to an increase in send-out.

* The August contract was 0.16 pence higher at 57.40 p/therm

* Day-ahead gas at the Dutch TTF hub edged down by 0.12 euro to 22.13 euros per megawatt-hour

* The benchmark Dec (Shanghai: 600875.SS - news) -18 EU carbon price was 0.26 euro higher at 15.36 euros a tonne. (Reporting by Nina Chestney)
