UK GAS-Prices mostly rise on milder temperatures, Groningen supply fears

Jan 9 (Reuters) - British wholesale gas prices mostly rose on Tuesday morning as forecasts for milder temperatures boosted demand and on concerns that production could be further cut from the Netherlands' Groningen gas fields.

* Day-ahead gas price up 0.80 pence at 53.50 p/therm by 0904 GMT.

* "Gas is firmer due to cooler temperature forecasts, also the Groningen news is also adding to the bullish sentiment," a trader said.

* The Dutch minister for the economy said on Monday output at the large Groningen gas field should be reduced "by as much as possible" during the current government term through 2021, following an earth tremor in the area on Monday.

* Dozens of earthquakes every year, resulting from decades of gas extraction, have caused damage to thousands of buildings and homes.

* The 3.4 magnitude tremor, reported on Monday, was the largest in recent years.

* Within-day gas price down 0.05 pence at 53.25 p/therm.

* Traders said the within-day contract slipped, due to oversupply.

* Gas system oversupplied by 18.9 million cubic metres (mcm), with demand forecast at 350.2 mcm and flows at 369.1 mcm/day, National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data showed.

* February contract up 1.00 pence at 54.25 p/therm

* Summer 2018 contract up 0.48 pence at 45.25 p/therm.

* Day-ahead gas price at the Dutch TTF hub up 0.40 euro at 19.35 euros per megawatt-hour.

* Benchmark Dec-18 EU carbon contract up 0.04 euro at 7.70 euros per tonne.
