UK GAS-Prices rise on cold weather, reduced Norway flows
Oct (Shenzhen: 000069.SZ - news) 17 (Reuters) - British wholesale gas prices rose on Tuesday due to colder weather and reduced gas flows from Norway, traders said. * Within-day gas price up by 1.60 pence to 43.50 pence per therm at 0900 GMT. * Day-ahead gas rose by 0.75 pence to 44.15 pence per therm. * Temperatures have fallen since Monday which was unseasonably warm and there are reduced gas imports from Norway, which have caused prices to rise, a gas trader said. * Average temperatures on Tuesday could reach 16 degrees Celsius in southern Britain, 7 degrees lower than the previous day, data from Britain's Met Office showed. * Peak wind power generation is forecast at 8.3 gigawatts (GW) on Tuesday and is expected to fall to 4.7 GW on Wednesday, Elexon data showed. * Lower wind output typically results in higher demand for gas from power plants. * Gas supply from Norway to Britain fell to 92 mcm/day on Tuesday from 100 mcm/day, hit by a 5 mcm/day decrease in flows through the Langeled pipeline. * Britain's gas system was oversupplied by 10.5 million cubic metres (mcm), with demand forecast at 213.9 mcm and supply at 224.4 mcm/day, National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data showed. * In the Dutch gas market, the day-ahead gas price at the TTF hub rose by 0.27 euro to 16.42 euros per megawatt hour (MWh). * The benchmark Dec (Shanghai: 600875.SS - news) -17 EU carbon contract was 0.12 euro higher at 7.48 euros a tonne. * Thomson Reuters (Dusseldorf: TOC.DU - news) analyst view: http://emea1.apps.cp.extranet.thomsonreuters.biz/cms/?pageid=united-kingdom-gas (Reporting by Lefteris Karagiannopoulos in Oslo; editing by Nina Chestney)
