UK GAS-Prices rise as Norwegian imports fall ahead of maintenance
LONDON, Aug 22 (Reuters) - British wholesale gas prices rose on Thursday morning as imports from Norway fell ahead of expected maintenance and unplanned outages continued to curb domestic supplies.
* Within-day gas price up 1.10 pence at 28.25 pence per therm by 0811 GMT.
* Day-ahead gas price up 0.90p at 29.00p therm.
* Imports from Norway through the Langeled pipeline were expected around 18 mcm, down from 47 mcm the previous day.
* "The reduction today is not unexpected as Troll (gas field)is ramping down ahead of a full shutdown this weekend," analysts at Refinitiv said in a daily research note.
* From Aug. 24 flows from Troll will be cut by 120 mcm/day until Sept. 5 for the yearly maintenance, operator Gassco said on its website.
* British domestic gas supplies were also curbed by an unplanned outage at the Culzean gas field which has been extended until Aug. 23, operator Total E&P said in a market update.
* Traders, however, said the price rise was partly dampened by forecasts of lower demand for gas from power plants due to strong wind power output.
* "Low (gas for) power demand has offset the weaker supplies a bit, but overall the market is still bullish," a trader said.
* Peak wind power generation is forecast at 9.2 gigawatts (GW) on Thursday, National Grid data showed.
* September gas contract up 0.37 p at 32.25 p/therm.
* Day-ahead gas price at the Dutch TTF hub up 0.39 euro at 10.32 euros per megawatt hour.
* Benchmark Dec-19 EU carbon contract down 0.14 euro at 25.88 euros per tonne. (Reporting By Susanna Twidale; editing by Emelia Sithole-Matarise)
