UK GAS-Prompt prices mixed as warmer temperatures loom

LONDON, Oct (Shenzhen: 000069.SZ - news) 31 (Reuters) - Prompt British wholesale gas prices were mixed on Tuesday, with the within-day price edging higher, as exports rose and the day-ahead contract faced pressure from expectations of warmer temperatures in the next few days. * Within-day gas price up 0.15 pence at 47.15 p/therm at 0952 GMT. * Gas traders said the within-day contract was boosted by an increase in exports to the continent via the IUK pipeline, but that the day-ahead contract slipped due to forecasts for warmer weather later this week. * Day-ahead gas price down 0.23 p at 46.80 p/therm. * British gas system slightly oversupplied by 3.5 million cubic metres, with supply forecast at 255.3 mcm and demand seen at 251.8 mcm, National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data showed. * Temperatures are expected to rise steadily over the next few days, but could turn colder by the weekend, Britain's Met Office said in a daily webcast. * Forecasts of higher output from the country's wind farms curbed demand from gas-fired power stations compared with Monday, when within-day prices rose more than 6 percent. * Peak wind power generation is forecast at 6.2 gigawatts on Tuesday, falling to 5.6 GW on Wednesday, National Grid data showed. * November gas contract up 0.45 pence at 48.20 p/therm. * Further along the curve, the Q1 2018 contract edged up by 0.22 p to 50.97 p/therm. * Day-ahead gas price at the Dutch TTF hub down 0.20 euro at 17.68 euros per megawatt-hour. * Benchmark Dec-17 EU carbon contract down 0.04 euro at 7.10 euros per tonne. * Thomson Reuters (Dusseldorf: TOC.DU - news) analyst view: http://emea1.apps.cp.extranet.thomsonreuters.biz/cms/?pageid=united-kingdom-gas (Reporting by Susanna Twidale; Editing by Dale Hudson)
