UK GAS-Prompt prices rise on cooler weather, pipeline work

Sept 12 (Reuters) - Prompt gas prices edged higher on Tuesday as cooler weather was forecast around Europe prompting higher domestic demand and as repair work on the Entry SEGAL pipeline system carrying gas from Norway to Britain continued. * Gas for immediate delivery rose 0.20 pence per therm at 46.65 pence at 0843 GMT. * Day-ahead gas slipped 0.20 pence per therm to 46.75 pence. * Gas supply from Norway to Britain was even at 61 million cubic metres per day (mcm/d). * Norway's Gassco said Tuesday's impact from an outage at the Entry SEGAL pipeline system would be 13.7 mcm, revising downwards its previous estimate of 14.7 mcm. * The outage is expected to end by the end of the week, Gassco said. * Britain's gas system was evenly balanced with demand predicted at 178.5 mcm on Tuesday compared to a flow of 178.5 mcm, National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data showed. * Peak wind power generation is forecast at 8.4 gigawatts (GW) on Tuesday compared to capacity of 9.9 GW but it is expected to fall to 6.3 GW on Wednesday, Elexon data showed, despite forecasts for heavy winds overnight. * Average temperatures on Tuesday are expected to reach 17 degrees Celsius in southern Britain, a touch below average, the UK Met Office said, warning that heavy winds will hit Wales and Northern England overnight. * The day-ahead gas price at the Dutch TTF hub slipped 0.03 euro to 17.20 euros per megawatt hour (MWh). * The benchmark Dec (Shanghai: 600875.SS - news) -17 EU carbon contract fell 0.18 euro to 6.70 euros a tonne.
