UK GAS-Prompt prices rise on low wind output

LONDON, July 9 (Reuters) - British prompt wholesale gas prices rose on Monday morning as low wind output lifted gas-to-power demand.

* Within-day contract up 1.00 pence at 58.40 pence per therm at 0845 GMT

* The day-ahead contract was 0.50 pence higher at 58.10 p/therm

* Gas-for-power demand is forecast at 56 mcm/day due to low wind output and slightly lower-than-normal nuclear power output, according to Thomson Reuters (Dusseldorf: TOC.DU - news) gas analysts

* Peak wind generation is forecast at around 3.3 gigawatts (GW) on Monday and 2.7 GW on Tuesday, Elexon data shows

* The system is nearly balanced with demand forecast at around 185 million cubic metres (mcm) and flows at 186 mcm/day, according to the National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) 's website

* Supply is robust. UK domestic production is slightly lower due to a small outage at Bacton Seal.

* Flows from Norway through the Langeled pipeline are at 47 mcm/day.

* "We now expect weekdays at 45 mcm/d going forward with the caveat that unplanned outages are likely to impact flows to Britain rather than to the Continent due to long term contracts to continental buyers and the (UK gas) discount to (Dutch gas)," TR gas analyst Oliver Sanderson said

* Day-ahead gas at the Dutch TTF hub was 0.22 euro higher at 22.45 euros per megawatt hour

* Russian flows to continental Europe have fallen due to maintenance at the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline, which has helped to lift Dutch gas prices, as well as low wind generation, traders said

* The benchmark Dec (Shanghai: 600875.SS - news) -18 EU carbon price rose by 0.21 euro to 15.91 euros a tonne (Reporting by Nina Chestney)
