Yahoo Finance UK weather forecast: Heatwave in 2 weeks after Britain battered by lightning
A heatwave will bake sun-starved Britons in just two weeks after a weekend of storms.
The Met Office warned lightning damage, thunderstorms and downpours will dampen this weekend.
But in just two weeks, temperatures are set to rocket to the high 20s in an August heatwave.
Hot air from Africa will bring the warm weather to Britain, AccuWeather forecaster Alyssa Smithmyer said.
High pressure from the Azores will bump temperatures to the top 20Cs in mid August, Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze predicted.
He told The Express: “There are tentative signs of an improvement in the weather during the middle third of August. High pressure may build towards the UK from the Azores, but there is a lot of uncertainty about this.
“If it happens temperatures in southern and central areas could climb towards the upper 20Cs and in the north the mid 20Cs. In the first half of August, mixed with showers or longer periods of rain but also warm and fine spells.
“The driest weather will probably be in the south and east, but a heightened risk of heavy showers or thunderstorms means local variations could be large. Temperatures should be above average when aggregated over the period as a whole. In the second half, the chance of settled and very warm periods increases.”
It comes as the Met Office warned flooding was possible this weekend.
“Some short term loss of power is possible, as is damage to a few buildings or structures from lightning strikes,” the Met Office added.
The full statement read: “Although many places will miss them, heavy showers and some thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon over some southern and eastern parts of England.
“Downpours could bring around 20 mm of rain within an hour, and perhaps 30-40 mm in a few hours for a few locations, leading to possible surface water flooding in places.
“Lightning and hail are most likely to occur across southeastern counties of England. The showers and thunderstorms will ease by late evening.”
