UK weather forecast LIVE: Brits flock to Bournemouth beach as mercury hits 37.8C on hottest day of the year

The UK is hotter than Ibiza today with with temperatures reaching 37.8C in London on what is the hottest day of the year so far and the third hottest day on record.

Popular tourist spots on the continent including Ibiza, Lisbon and Berlin fall short of the UK high, where the mercury is expected to reach 32C, 31C, and 27C respectively.

Britons have flocked to Bournemouth beach, even after police warned that they will be patrolling to enforce social distancing guidelines.

July was less sunny than usual. The highest temperature previously recorded this month was 28.5C (83.3F) on July 17 at Heathrow Airport.
