Underwriter Hiscox's Q1 premiums rise 24.3 pct
May 8 (Reuters) - Lloyd's of London underwriter Hiscox (Swiss: 27373019.SW - news) on Tuesday reported a 24.3 percent rise in gross written premiums in the first quarter compared to the same period a year ago, helped by growth in its retail business.
The insurer, which underwrites a range of risks from oil refineries to kidnappings, said gross written premiums rose to $1.16 billion in the three months ended March 31, from $930 million a year earlier. (Reporting by Arathy S Nair in Bengaluru; editing by Patrick Graham)
