Underwriter

In insurance this refers to an individual who evaluates the potential risks in a company or individual’s circumstances before deciding whether or not to provide cover and the premium that should be charged. In the investment world an underwriter administers and distributes a new issue of securities to investors. They also assume the responsibility of selling the securities and therefore shoulder any losses if they cannot sell the shares at the specified price.
