Unlikely activity is considered the most stress-inducing part of the holidays

While buying the perfect gift for your loved ones can be quite stressful, it shockingly doesn't top the intensity of throwing a holiday party.

According to a new survey from Yelp, the holiday season brings about more stress than expected -- but not entirely in the ways you may think. The survey polled 2,000 Americans who celebrate a winter holiday and it gathered the most stress-inducing and expensive moments during the season.

Over half of the pollers (51 percent), said that hosting a party or dinner is the most stress-inducing part of the holidays. As to what causes the biggest headaches when planning a party, the results were clear: cleaning their home before a hosted dinner (41 percent), having enough time to get everything ready (38 percent), preparing holiday meals (36 percent), cleaning their home after a hosted dinner (34 percent) and preparing their home for houseguests (34 percent).

Although the imminent stress surrounding the holidays and event hosting may seem unavoidable, many Americans also revealed the pros they lean on to alleviate the burden. Nearly a third (29 percent) have hired a cleaning service for their home during the holidays, over a quarter (26 percent) have rented tables, chairs, or other items like table linens for holiday gatherings, and about one in four have hired a caterer or private chef (24 percent) or hired someone to help decorate their home for the holiday season (22 percent).
