Even if it's not a huge purchase, we think it was good to see that Bradley Nattrass, the Co-Founder of urban-gro, Inc. (NASDAQ:UGRO) recently shelled out US$89k to buy stock, at US$1.49 per share. Although the purchase is not a big one, increasing their shareholding by only 3.4%, it can be interpreted as a good sign.

urban-gro Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Lead Independent Director Lewis Wilks for US$92k worth of shares, at about US$4.50 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$1.57 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About urban-gro Insiders?

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchase. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses.
