Vertical integration
The merger of companies operating different stages of production or distribution within the same industry. Vertical integration can also refer to the expansion of a company into different stages along its existing production line. This gives a single company control over several stages in the production or distribution of goods and services and allows them to achieve economies of scale. However, it can also create barriers to entry for other companies.
