Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach Mike Hesson has backed underfire Virat Kohli, saying that he is desperate to score runs against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings on Friday. Kohli has had a poor run with the bat failing to put big scores under his belt.

In a recent video uploaded by RCB on their social media handles, Virat Kohli was seen putting in the extra yards in training. Hesson, who watched him in the nets from close quarters, claimed that he has got his rhythm back and is desperate to score runs.

“We did that a couple of times [on Virat’s extended net session], some of our batsmen look to do that when they get extra opportunities,” Mike Hesson said.

“Virat’s desperate to do well and he likes those one-on-one sessions to keep confidence or basically find his rhythm again and he says, it looks like he found it,” he added.

Virat Kohli has managed only 203 runs from eight matches in IPL 2021 at an average of 29.

After the loss against KKR, Kohli gave a motivational talk to the RCB players in the dressing-room where he asked them to accept the defeat and move on.

“We are better off accepting it immediately and being at peace with it. Not meaning that we don’t look forward to the next one, but it should give us more hunger to get on to the field again and play the cricket that we have played already in this tournament,” Virat Kohli added.

RCB are currently placed third in the points table with 10 points from eight matches.
