Virgin Media's internet service has stopped working for some of its users, according to those affected.

Customers said they were unable to get online, apparently as a result of problems with the network.

The company asked those who complained on Twitter to check its service status page, which informs them of the status of any outage, though some said they were unable to get to that site too.

According to DownDetector, the issue appeared to begin at 08:00, with a spike at around 13:00.

The issue is affecting users across the country, in cities including London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Leeds.

Some users in Glasgow and Belfast have also been affected.

The Independent has reached out to Virgin Media for comment.
