Presidential daughters Chelsea Clinton, Jenna Bush Hager buying stakes in NWSL's Washington Spirit

The National Women's Soccer League's team in Washington just got an injection of bipartisanship.

Presidential daughters Chelsea Clinton and Jenna Bush Hager are each buying ownership stakes in the Washington Spirit, the team announced.

In addition to Clinton, the daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Hager, the daughter of George W. and Laura Bush, the Spirit are also lined up to add former USWNT goalie Briana Scurry and groundbreaking Olympic gymnast Dominique Dawes to its ownership box.

While their parents have their obvious political differences, Hager has spoken of a "sisterhood" among women who have grown up in and around the White House. From Today:

“Chelsea (Clinton) and I see each other around, or we used to. Now, I don’t see anybody. But we used to see each other around New York City. And I reach out to the Obama girls and vice versa. But we do.

“There is a sisterhood because it’s so few of us that we know what it’s like and the beauty of it and living history and also some of the difficulties,” she said.

Local tech executive Steve Baldwin currently sits as the managing owner of the team, which was established in 2012 as one of the NWSL's eight original teams.

Celebrity ownerships the new trend in NWSL

The Spirit adding Clinton, Hager, Dawes, Scurry and more would continue recent trend of celebrity ownership in the NWSL.

Naturally, Los Angeles' Angel City FC is the most star-studded of the group, with an ownership group that includes (deep breath) Natalie Portman, Serena Williams, Jennifer Garner, Lindsey Vonn, Uzo Aduba, P.K. Subban, Jessica Chastain, America Ferrera, Candace Parker, Billie Jean King, Eva Longoria and Lilly Singh among others, plus past USWNT stars like Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy and Abby Wambach.

Tennis star Naomi Osaka has also purchased a stake in the North Carolina Courage, per The Athletic, while Tony Parker holds part of the OL Reign and James Harden and Oscar De La Hoya are among the owners of the Houston Dash. J.J. Watt also once tweeted his interest in buying the Utah Royals, which saw its assets eventually moved to a Kansas City expansion team co-owned by Patrick Mahomes' fiancee Brittany Matthews.
