Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has shut down a fan on social media who accused him of supporting Pakistan in the name of sporting spirit. Meanwhile, Jaffer remains one of the most active cricketers on social media sharing his thoughts with the fans.

It all began when Wasim Jaffer posted a tweet in favour of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) cancelled its men’s and women’s teams’ tour of the nation owing to a security threat. Taking to Twitter, Wasim Jaffer wrote:

“The @TheRealPCB have every reason to be disappointed with the ECB. Pak and WI toured England last year during pandemic before vaccines. England owes so much to both Pak and WI. Least ECB could do is not cancel the reciprocal tours. There are no winners when cricket is cancelled.”

The tweet received over 2.5 thousand comments, one of which was from a user who wrote:

“Wasim bhai wahi hai jo India Pakistan ke match main Pakistan ko cheer karte hai in the name of sporting spirit.”

He received a lot of bashing on social media and later deleted the tweet. In response, Wasim Jaffer shared the screenshot of his historic double century against Pakistan in 2007 to shut down the troll.

England have officially pulled out of their men’s and women’s tour to Pakistan scheduled in October, the ECB confirmed on Monday (September 20). This comes just three days after New Zealand abandoned their limited-overs tour of Pakistan in the 11th hour, citing security concerns.

“Earlier this year, we agreed to play two additional T20 World Cup warm-up games in Pakistan in October, adding a short women’s tour with double headers alongside the men’s games,” an official ECB statement said.

“The ECB Board convened this weekend to discuss these extra England Women’s and Men’s games in Pakistan and we can confirm that the Board has reluctantly decided to withdraw both teams from the October trip,” it added.

The board also felt the tour would not be the most ideal preparation for the men’s T20 World Cup, which will get underway from October 14 in UAE and Oman.
