American Thanksgiving holds a special place on the NFL league calendar with all eyes on the Thursday slate, and J.J. Watt made his mark early in primetime.

Watt’s Houston Texans squared off against the Detroit Lions in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader and the three-time Defensive Player of the Year showed why he should still be in All-Pro contention every season.

After Detroit emerged with an early 7-0 lead, Watt injected some much-needed life into his team. He broke up a poorly designed screen, picked off the errant pass from Matthew Stafford and scampered to the house for a touchdown.

Watt’s place in Canton has been secure for years, but you can certainly add this Thanksgiving Day pick-six to his career highlight reel when it eventually comes to an end.

The best players in the NFL — Randy Moss and Russell Wilson among them — have made an indelible mark during the Thanksgiving marquee. We’re grateful that we get to live in the era of arguably the greatest defensive player in NFL history. Sorry, Lions fans!
