- Company forms international consortium with ProteoGenix SAS and Amsterdam UMC Schlieren (Zurich Area), Switzerland – April 12, 2021 – ImmunOs Therapeutics AG, a Swiss bio-technology company developing a new class of biologics for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases, announced today that is has received public funding from the European Union’s Eurostars-2 Programme and the Swiss Innovation Agency Innosuisse. The funds have been granted for the development of a pioneering HLA-open conformer-specific antibody to treat chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Research will be conducted by a consortium with ProteoGenix SAS (Strasbourg, France) and Amsterdam University Medical Centres (Amsterdam, The Netherlands). “The competitive funding underlines the innovative potential of our approach to develop HLA-based therapeutics addressing multiple targets via a single fusion protein,” said Sean R. Smith, CEO of ImmunOs Therapeutics AG. “The goal of the consortium is the delivery of OCi, a novel monoclonal antibody to treat immune-mediated inflammatory diseases based on our technology platform. We plan to show our proof-of-concept in spondyloarthritis treatment. OCi will target a causative mechanism of inflammation. It works upstream of all current therapies that only 30-50% of patients respond to.” “The OCi mAb is a new product with a completely novel mechanism of action ensuring superior safety and efficacy,” said Dr. Osiris Marroquin Belaunzaran, CSO of ImmunOs. “The new antibody is expected to work in a large variety of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases where HLA-OCs trigger disease. The consortium is planning to develop OCi for psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease once we achieve in vivo proof-of-concept in spondyloarthritis.” Within the consortium, ProteoGenix, a leader in the field of molecular immunology with 50 active antibody development projects and the largest human naïve phage display library available in Europe, will optimize its phage display technology for the HLA mAb development. “We are thrilled about the opportunity to partner with ImmunOs Therapeutics AG and Amsterdam UMC in this challenging project,” said Philippe Funfrock, CEO of ProteoGenix. “Optimizing our phage display platform for HLA mAb development will certainly serve as a basis for the development of immunotherapies targeting other equally complex inflammatory diseases using completely animal-free approaches.” Amsterdam UMC is a leading medical centre and translational research institution. The department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology specializes in autoimmune and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. Among others, it will contribute its animal model of spondyloarthritis, including know-how on treatment regimens, phenotype/tissue and HLA expression and TCR repertoire analysis and provide access to an internationally recognized pool of KOLs with specific expertise on spondyloarthritis and other immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. ### About ImmunOs Therapeutics AG ImmunOs Therapeutics AG focuses on the development of a new class of biologic therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases. Secret Spa co-owner Emily Ewart-Perks said Monday is set to double the company’s best-ever day to date in terms of bookings.
Prime minister Boris Johnson reminded people to "behave responsibly" while warnings from scientists over the weekend suggested that restrictions might be easing too quickly.
French nationals and residents aged 55 and above will have access to the AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccines starting Monday, French Health Minister Olivier Véran said over the weekend. France is also prolonging the period between the first and second shots of the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, he added. All French nationals and residents aged 55 and above will be granted access to Covid-19 vaccinations starting Monday, said Véran in an interview with the Sunday weekly Journal du Dimanche (JDD).The AstraZeneca vaccine as well as the one-shot Johnson & Johnson – which arrives in France Monday, a week ahead of schedule – will be available to those in the 55-and-above age bracket, said Véran. The shortened timeline comes as France is trying to increase the pace of its vaccination programme, which has been criticised as sluggish, and to gain ground on the spread of the more contagious virus variant first identified in Britain. At the same time, French officials have defended their policy of reserving the AstraZeneca vaccine for people over 55 with serious health problems after rare but serious blood clot disorders were observed only among younger vaccinated patients. On March 12, France authorised the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a Belgium-based company owned by Johnson & Johnson. The first delivery of 200,000 doses was to arrive a week ahead of schedule, said Véran, adding, "We are expanding the vaccination campaign."France's vaccine rollout is hitting its stride after a glacial start, reaching a target of 10 million first doses a week ahead of a mid-April target. The government aims to deliver another 10 million first shots by mid-May.Extended spacing between shots for mRNA vaccinesVéran also announced an increased spacing between the first and second doses of the messenger-RNA vaccines made by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna.Beginning Wednesday, all those who have received the first jab will get a second one after 42 days instead of the current 28 days. “This will allow us to vaccinate faster without seeing a reduction in protection," explained Véran.Although France's top health authority advised a six-week period between the two shots in January in order to stretch supplies, the government at the time said there was insufficient data on how well the vaccines performed with a longer interval.France could safely stretch the interval now because it was vaccinating a younger age group, Véran said.Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccination campaigns moved forwardMeanwhile the vaccination campaigns with the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna jabs for the above-60 age group have been moved forward to Friday. The campaigns initially only targeted the most fragile groups, including those aged over 75 or anyone with comorbidities. The programme however was delayed due to procurement problems. Nearly 75 percent of nursing home residents nationwide have received two vaccine doses, but that figure falls to 35 percent among 75-79 year-olds in major cities and towns. The announcement came as France is under tightened Covid-19 restrictions with schools closed for two weeks, a ban on travel between regions and a 7pm nationwide curfew.President Emmanuel Macron, who was forced by a spiralling infection rate and overloaded healthcare system to impose a third nationwide lockdown, is counting on an accelerated vaccine rollout to allow a gradual reopening of the country from the middle of next month. The numbers in intensive care continue to rise and France will almost certainly surpass 100,000 Covid-19 deaths this week. It reported over 43,000 new cases on Saturday and said there were now 5,769 patients receiving critical care. However, Véran said there were signs that a new lockdown was beginning to slow the infection rate."It remains very high," Véran told the JDD. "We can expect that after a period of stabilisation comes the fall. But for that, we must keep going."(FRANCE 24 with AFP and REUTERS)

Two French and five Haitian religious officials as well as three civilians were kidnapped on the Caribbean island on Sunday as they were preparing to attend the inauguration of a new parish priest near Port-au-Prince. Kidnappers demanded a ransom of one million dollars. The group was kidnapped in the commune of Croix-des-Bouquets near the capital Port-au-Prince, where they were preparing to attend the installation of a new parish priest, Father Loudger Mazile, spokesperson of the island’s Bishop’s Conference, told AFP agency. The French members of the group included a priest and nun, while the Haitian group included four priests and one nun. The three civilians are associates of a priest who was not among those kidnapped. Mazile said a ransom of one million dollars was demanded for their release. A police source told AFP investigators suspected the kidnapping to be the work of an armed gang called 400 Mawozo. France’s ambassador to Haiti had not commented as of Monday morning.Gang violence increasesKidnappings and demands for ransoms have surged in recent months, both in the capital and in rural areas, reflecting the growing influence of armed gangs in the Caribbean nation. “[We express] deep sadness but also anger in regard to the inhuman situation that we have been facing for more than a decade,” read a statement issued by the Haitian Conference of the Clergy.“Not a day goes by without tears and clenched teeth, yet the so-called leaders of this country, while clinging to power, are more and more powerless.”Last month, Haiti’s government declared a month-long state of emergency to restore state authority in areas that have seen a surge in kidnappings, theft, looting and clashes with security forces in many districts. The rise in gang violence and political instability have recently drawn public demonstrations to the streets of Port-au-Prince, including on 3 April, which hundreds of women rallied against the growing influence of gangs. Political crisisHaiti has also been mired in a political crisis in recent months.President Jovenel Moïse argues his mandate ends on 7 February 2022, while opponents say it ended on 7 February 2021. The disagreement stems from the fact that Moïse was elected in a vote that was invalidated due to fraud and then re-elected one year later. The country has been without a parliament since last year, since when Moïse has been governing by decree. The president has also said he plans to hold a constitutional referendum in June. And I go to honk my horn and the horn doesn't work on my mum's car and she had no idea that the horn doesn't work on her car because she never uses her horn because she's the calmest person in the whole world," she recalled. The car was deemed unsafe for the test, but Rodrigo finally passed on her fourth try and got her licence."I got there eventually!" she laughed.
